Dubbed the "Leading Lady of Crossover” by Classical Singer magazine, Amy Justman has built a career spanning musical theater, classical music, and beyond. Recent highlights include playing Edith Corse Evans and covering the role of Alice Beane in Titanic at City Center Encores, soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at New York City Ballet, and her debut with Tulsa Symphony for Mozart’s Requiem. In January 2025, Amy will be playing Louise in the world premiere of the alternative opera, Eat the Document, for the Prototype Festival.
Highlights of previous seasons include the PBS Great Performances’ broadcast of Bernstein’s Mass with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, her principal debut with New York Philharmonic covering the Assistant in David Lang’s Prisoner of the State, Handel's Messiah with Musica Sacra at Carnegie Hall, and her cabaret show with collaborator Jerry Steichen for Columbus Indiana Philharmonic's Cabaret at the Commons and for Crested Butte Music Festival in Colorado.
Amy made her Broadway debut in the revival of Company, performing the role of Susan as well as playing piano as part of the actor‐orchestra. Other theatrical credits include Carousel, In Transit, A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, and Irving Berlin's White Christmas on Broadway, covering the role of Carlotta in both the Broadway and the 25th Anniversary National Tour of Phantom of the Opera, the world premiere of Unmasked: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at Paper Mill Playhouse, Adrienne Weill in the world premiere of Double Helix at Bay Street Theater, and Clara in the off-Broadway revival of Passion at Classic Stage Company. She made her debut with Syracuse Opera as Polly Peachum in Threepenny Opera and sang Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Steamboat Symphony Orchestra,
Amy’s recent concert work includes arias from Victoria Bond’s Mrs. President at Symphony Space, An Afternoon with Richard Rodgers at Untermeyer Gardens, Haydn's The Creation with Winston-Salem Symphony, Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living and Jubilate Deo at Carnegie Hall with Manhattan Concert Productions, Handel's Messiah with Symphoria, Hudson Valley Philharmonic and Glacier Symphony; Bach’s St. John Passion with Great Music in a Great Space, and Bach’s Coffee Cantata with Broadway Chamber Players. She has been the soprano soloist for Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer and solo cover for Stravinsky’s Les Noces with New York City Ballet, Bach’s Mass in B Minor with Great Music in a Great Space, John Fitz Rogers’ Sehnen with American Modern Ensemble at National Sawdust, and Mahler’s Symphony no. 4 with Broadway Chamber Players.
She can be heard on the original revival cast recordings of Company and Carousel, Bernstein's Mass with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the jazz recording Songs for Pickles, Tania León's Grammy-nominated Inura, and voice work for Maestro, White Noise, Hail, Caesar!, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Get Down and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She has also appeared on-camera as Adult Nicole Fosse in FX’s Fosse/Verdon, on Apple TV’s Dickinson, and HBO’s The Gilded Age.
Amy is on the Vocal Arts and Collaborative Piano Faculty at Manhattan School of Music and is an adjunct private voice teacher for Marymount Manhattan College. Amy was previously a voice instructor for Yale's Shen Curriculum for Musical Theater and has also taught master classes throughout the United States. She has been a judge for the semi-finals of the Lotte Lenya Competition — for which she is a former first prize winner — and the quarterfinals of the NATS Musical Theater competition.
Amy received her MM from Manhattan School of Music and her BA from Yale University. She lives in New York City with her husband, writer Dave Itzkoff, and their child, Max.
